In Mississippi, I would gauge how threatening the weather was by calling to see if Wal-Mart was open. If it was open, all was well. If not, people started looking for signs of the apocalypse. Nonetheless, we all remember this. For a few days, life as our pre-pubescent minds knew it stopped. Most of what I remember from that year revolved around ice.
